10-Night Private Surf Villa Experience

This sample itinerary outlines a relaxed and well-paced surf escape based at John’s Place on Awera Island in the Mentawais. It’s designed for small private groups seeking uncrowded waves, easy logistics and a comfortable land-based surf experience.

Surf level: Intermediate to advanced (not suitable for absolute beginners)

Saturday – Arrival in Padang

• Arrive into Padang (Minangkabau International Airport) and transfer to the Mercure Padang Hotel or a similar beachfront hotel.
  Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying dinner in town before an early start the following morning.

Overnight in Padang.

Sunday – Transfer to the Mentawais & Arrival at John’s Place

• Early morning transfer to Padang harbour for the fast ferry to Tuapejat (approx. 3.5 hours).
  On arrival, a short private boat transfer takes you directly to John’s Place.

You’ll arrive by early afternoon, with time to settle in, enjoy lunch and take in your surroundings. Depending on energy levels and conditions, there’s the option for:

• A relaxed first surf directly out front

• Time by the pool with a cold drink

• Or simply unwinding after the journey

Monday to Tuesday – Surf, Fish & Explore (10 Full Days)

• The next ten days are all about finding your rhythm and enjoying island life at its best.

• Daily surf sessions at the fun, user-friendly reef break directly out front

• Waves are best described as “just right” — not too heavy, not too soft

• Ideal for confident surfers riding shortboards, mid-lengths or funboards

• Optional boat trips to nearby breaks depending on conditions and surf ability and desire - Get Barrelled or Cruise.

• Fishing, snorkelling and island exploration available

• Plenty of downtime between surfs to relax by the pool or enjoy the shaded decks

There’s no pressure to surf every session — the pace is flexible and tailored to the group.

Wednesday – Final Surf & Return to Padang

• Enjoy a final morning surf before packing down and saying goodbye to island life.

In the afternoon:

• Short boat transfer back to Tuapejat

• 3:00 pm fast ferry back to Padang

• Transfer to the Mercure Padang Hotel or similar

Overnight in Padang.

Thursday – Departure

Breakfast at the hotel followed by transfer to Padang airport for onward travel home.

Downstairs:
